Chair
Mr Barry Ball – Deputy Director, Global Change Institute, The University of Queensland

Barry has recently left Brisbane City Council to take up the role of Deputy Director of the newly established Global Change Institute at The University of Queensland. Part of his role is to work in the International WaterCentre as the Manager - Water Policy. Barry has worked in both State and Local Government in his 35 year career, predominately in the water sector. His most recent roles in Brisbane City Council were the Manager - Strategic Planning and Manager - Water Resources.

Some of Barry’s recent achievements include the establishment of the Moreton Bay Waterways and Catchment Partnership, which was adopted as formal Council policy in Brisbane, an integrated “whole of water” strategy and establishment of a whole of region Water Quality Monitoring Program.

Barry is on the Urban Water Advisory Committee for the National Water Commission and has held Board positions on the CRC Catchment Hydrology, CRC Coastal Zone, International Riverfoundation and Environment Professional Board at Griffith University.

 

Prof Stuart Bunn - Director, Australian Rivers Institute, Griffith University

Professor Bunn is the Director of the Australian Rivers Institute at Griffith University in Brisbane.  His major research interests are in the ecology of river and wetland systems with a particular focus on ecosystem processes, and he has published widely on this topic. 
 
Stuart has extensive experience working with international and Australian government agencies on water resource management issues.  He is a member of the Scientific Steering Committee for the Global Water System Project, the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the Lake Eyre Basin Ministerial Council and the Deputy Chair of the Scientific Expert Panel for the Southeast Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership.  He also leads the Australian Climate Adaptation Research Network for Water Resources and Freshwater Biodiversity and in 2008 was appointed as a National Water Commissioner. 
 
In 2007, Professor Bunn was awarded the Australian Society for Limnology Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research and management of Australia’s inland waters.

 

Mr Greg Claydon - Executive Director of Strategic Water Initiatives, Department of Environment and Resource Management, Queensland Government

Greg Claydon is currently the Executive Director of Strategic Water Initiatives with the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management. He is responsible for development of statewide strategic water policy, ground water policy, water trading policy and all water related legislation, Queensland’s contributions to national water policies and programs, all regional water supply strategies and water infrastructure planning outside South-East Queensland.

Greg has tertiary qualifications in agricultural engineering and has held positions in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Emerald, Ayr and St George in Queensland and in Canberra.  He also has work experience in New Zealand, Canada, USA, the Caribbean, Japan, Singapore and Turkey.

Greg was awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) in the 2009 Australia Day Honours Awards for outstanding public service in natural resources management and water reform.

Mr Mark Pascoe - Chief Executive, International WaterCentre

Mark Pascoe has worked his 30 year career in the water industry – predominately in Brisbane, Australia. He spent many years with Brisbane City Council where his most recent position was as the Manager, Water and Sewerage. He was for a brief period the Queensland Operations Manager of Woodward-Clyde Pty Ltd, an environmental engineering consultancy. He left the BCC role to take up the position of Deputy Director, International Water Association in London, which he held for three years before recently returning to Brisbane.
 
Mark has held positions of President, Australian Water Association; Board Member, Water Services Association of Australia; Board Member, Co-operative Research Centre, Water Quality and Treatment; Board Member, Global Water Research Coalition. Recently he has been elected as the President of the Australian Water Partnership (the Australian presence of the Global Water Partnership) and is a Director of Environment Business Australia.
 
Mark is the CEO of the International WaterCentre where his role is to lead the development of the Joint Venture in providing solutions to Water Management issues for national and international clients.

 

Mr Matthew Reddy – Chief Executive Officer, The International RiverFoundation

Matthew joined the RiverFoundation in 2010 after a career spanning carbon, renewable energy, clean technology investment and natural resource management.
 
As a passionate practitioner in environmental and management consulting his main areas of expertise cover project financing, capital raising and the application of market based instruments in carbon and ecosystem services.
 
With national and international project experience including environmental management systems, catchment scale implementation of biodiverse forest carbon sinks, degraded river restoration, native grasslands, freshwater biodiversity and wetlands he brings a breadth of integrated, practical expertise to the RiverFoundation.
 
A feature of all the initiatives that Matthew has led is the collaborative approach to achieving long term on-ground results.
 
Matthew has worked for Australian Partnered Investments, Power Alliance Holdings, Carbon Advantage, Landcare CarbonSMART, Landcare Australia Ltd,  and holds a BA from Southern Cross University and an MBA from Ballarat University.
